The Adelphi University baseball team hosted the Chargers of Dominican College (N.Y.) this afternoon in a non-conference contest. The Chargers got on the board in the first inning and never looked back, en route to the 9-1 victory. Dominican improves to 5-4 as Adelphi falls to 11-4.
For the Panthers, sophomore Justin Farnum went 2-for-3, while freshman Thomas Torregrossa went 1-for-1 and drove in the lone Panther run. Sophomore Chris Pabisch suffered the loss, giving up just one earned run and striking out two.
Dominican took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tommy Maloney grounded out to second, driving in Tony Burke in the process. Willie Mann would drive in the Chargers' second run with a double in the right-center field gap.
After Dominican retired Adelphi in order in the bottom of the sixth, they would tack on two more runs to take a 4-0 lead. The Chargers got the first run on a sacrifice fly, with the second on a fielder's choice.
Xavier Bonilla highlighted a five-run eighth with a double to the left center, scoring two Chargers. Adelphi would prevent the shut out when Torregrossa drove in junior Trevor Thorstensen.
For the Chargers, Bonilla went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Marco Moreno finished 2-for-4 with two driven in and one scored. Bartuska collected the win, going seven innings, surrendering three hits and fanning four.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow when they take on Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
