Baseball Falls To New Haven, Tops St. Thomas Aquinas in ECC Playoffs

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team played two games in one day at two different sites on Saturday, May 10 for the chance to advance to the ECC Championship game. The Panthers fell to New Haven, 4-0 in their first contest of the day and topped St. Thomas Aquinas 3-1 to advance. The split gives Adelphi an overall record of 25-24.

The sixth seeded Panthers picked up five hits but could not get on the board, falling, 4-0 to the Chargers. Keith Couch went five innings, striking out five and giving up all seven hits and four runs in the loss. Mike McLasky and Jason Intelisano blanked New Haven for three innings but the Adelphi offense could not get rolling.

In the second game Mike Bartlett tossed 7.1 innings of one run baseball, striking out six as McLasky threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to help Adelphi to a 3-1 win. Ryan Boelsen was 1-4 at the plate with an RBI and run scored.

Sunday, Adelphi and New Haven will meet in an elimination game at Dowling's Brookhaven campus in Shirley, New York. First pitch is slated for 9:00 a.m.

Both teams have will need to post a 3-0 day overall to claim the championship as the victor moves on the face C.W. Post at 12:00 p.m. A third and final game (if necessary) would begin following field preparation.
