Baseball Drops Two to New Haven

Game One/Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team played host to New Haven in an East Coast Conference double header on Saturday, April 12 at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Panthers were blanked in game one, 2-0 and fell 3-0 in game two. The losses drop Adelphi to 12-19 overall and 5-9 in the conference.

GAME ONE - UNH 2, Adelphi 0

New Haven's Matt Sommo threw a complete-game shutout, striking out seven to help the Chargers to a 2-0 win in the opener. Sommo allowed just three hits and gave up three walks and a hit-by-pitch in the win.

Bobby Lanigan lasted 7 2/3 innings, striking out eight and allowing just four hits and a walk.

Michael Moras and Tom Ballaro were both hitless but drove in the runs, while Evan Okon scored both and was 2-for-3 at the plate for New Haven.

Three different players had hits for Adelphi, with Rob DeGennaro the only Panther to be on base twice by adding a walk.

GAME TWO - UNH 3, Adelphi 0 (7 innings)

New Haven's T.J. Phelan did not allow a run in a 7-inning complete-game shutout, scattering seven hits without a walk. Mike Scudero countered with six innings of three run, seven strike out baseball, while Robert Nixon pitched one inning of one hit, no run relief.

Okon drove in two of UNH's three runs and scored the other, with Moras driving in the other run for the Chargers.

Adelphi's Ryan Boelsen was 2-for-3 and five other players had one hit each.

Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, April 13 when they travel to West Haven, Connecticut to close out the three-game set with New Haven.
