The Adelphi University baseball team topped Bentley College 6-5 and 14-3 in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader. The Panthers are 3-1 in the four-game series and improve to 7-4 on the season. Bentley drops to 1-3 on the season.
In game one, the Panthers trailed 5-3 in the seventh inning when Chris Alvarez hit a two-run double to tie the game. Relief pitchers Chris Widmer and Mike Thompson held Bentley scoreless for the final six innings. Adelphi scored its final run on an error in the 12th innning.
In game two, Adelphi jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back. Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Eric Pelkaus, who was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Tom Sicari was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Adelphi returns to action this Wednesday, March 17, hosting the University of Bridgeport in their conference season opener. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
