North Attleboro, Mass. – Adelphi University's Mitchell Archer and Zeus Sara have swept the Northeast 10 weekly men's golf awards. Archer was named Player of the Week following his tournament victory and Sara earned Rookie of the Week honors.
In a dominant performance for the Panthers at the Penman Season Finale this past weekend, Archer and Sara helped lead Adelphi to its second tournament victory of the week. The Brown and Gold shot a combined 28-under as a team, defeating second-place Bentley University by 22 strokes.
Archer led the way for the Panthers en route to his first individual championship of the season. The sophomore shot a nine-under over 36 holes at Beaver Meadow Golf Course to lead all participants. In round one, Archer carded a 68 while recording four birdies, all on the front nine. In his second round, he was one shot better, as his 67 marked a new career low round. During his second trip around the course, he tallied five birdies and did not record a single bogey during the tournament.
Sara finished in third place at the Penman Season Finale, joining Archer near the top of the leaderboard. The freshman shot a five-under for the tournament, carding a 69 in round one and a 70 in round two. Over 36 holes, he recorded eight birdies, helping the Panthers secure the team victory.
The men's golf selection release is scheduled for Sunday, April 26. Following the release, Archer, Sara and the Panthers return to action on Monday, April 27, when they compete in the Charger Challenge at Spook Rock Golf Club in Suffern, N.Y. The event will mark the team's final stop before the NCAA Regionals.
