New Castle, Del. – This past weekend, the Adelphi women's bowling team participated in the Sacred Heart-hosted Northeast Classic and earned a historic win in program history, taking down the No. 4-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The Panthers faced seven of the top 25 teams in the nation and three of the top five during the tournament, holding their own against the defending national champions, No. 7 Youngstown State, and, as mentioned, defeating No. 4 Nebraska.
In the Baker match against the Cornhuskers, Adelphi was carried by Carly Wu and Giana Giampapa. Wu threw five strikes in her final five frames, averaging 23.3 pins per frame, while Giampapa did not leave a single open frame and averaged 21 pins per frame.
Excelling in Baker play, the Panthers went undefeated at 3-0 against ECC foes, defeating Molloy, which received votes in the latest NTCA poll, along with Daemen and St. Thomas Aquinas. Adelphi recorded its high game of the tournament with a 248 against rival Molloy and earned a comeback 4-2 win over Daemen after trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth game of the playoff.
Tiffany Wong was Adelphi's top bowler, averaging 185 across five traditional matches. She also led the team in overall fill percentage in both traditional and Baker play, while posting the best average per frame.
Marissa Funk finished close behind Wong, averaging 184.2. The freshman led the team in first-ball average and strike percentage in traditional play.
Erica DeJesus was excellent in Baker play, earning a 46.3% strike percentage and leading the team with 38 strikes.
