Men’s Golf Finishes Second as Inclement Weather Cuts George Cangero Invitational Short

East Meadow, N.Y. – This past weekend, the fourth annual George Cangero Invitational took place, hosted by Farmingdale State College. However, the action was cut short due to inclement weather. After just one round of golf, the Adelphi University men's golf team finished in second place, with Francis Lanuza and Zeus Sara both earning top-five finishes.

As a team, Adelphi finished two-over on the leaderboard, just two strokes behind Swarthmore College, who claimed first-place. Notably, the Panthers led all teams in birdies, tallying 15 in the single round of play.

Senior Francis Lanuza's strong performance secured individual second place in which he shot a sparkling two-under-par 70.

Freshman Zeus Sara showed promising signs in his collegiate debut, tying for fifth place. The Philippines native shot an even-par 72, highlighted by back-to-back birdies on the final two holes of the day.

Not far behind was last year's Northeast 10 player of the year, Mitchell Archer, who carded a one-over 73 in his first round of 2025.

Johnny Solari and Ahaan Dhir each posted solid scores of three-over 75, contributing significantly to the team's second-place finish.

Coach David Mattana and the Panthers will be back in action next week from Monday, Sept. 15 to Tuesday, Sept. 16 at the Granite State Opener, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University at Beaver Meadow Golf Course in Concord, N.H.
