Boyd, Hockl, Solevag Halvorsen Earn NE10 Weekly Tennis Awards

Mansfield, Mass. — The Adelphi tennis teams returned to campus yesterday after a successful trip to the ITA East Regional and on Tuesday afternoon, three Panthers were recognized by the Northeast 10 for their efforts. 

Roisin Boyd, and Viktor Hockl were named the NE10 Players of the Week while Oda Solevag Halvorsen earned the first conference award of her career, being named Rookie of the Week. 

Over the weekend, Boyd earned her second ITA doubles title with Katarina Liedbeck. The duo was the number one overall seed and earned a first round bye before winning a tight 8-5 round of 32 match. From there, Liedbeck and Boyd went on an absolute tear, only dropping five games in three matches. The pair went on to defeat the number eight-seeded team from Queens 6-3, 6-4 to earn the crown. 

In singles play, Boyd, as the number 12-seed reached the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual champion. After a close call in the round of 64, Boyd did not drop a set in her next two victories. 

Hockl earned his second player of the week award in as many weeks as he was the furthest Panther to advance in both singles and doubles play. In singles, the number two seeded Hockl took down the number 12 overall seed in straight sets the round of 16 before falling to the eventual champion in a third set tiebreaker. 

Playing with Spyridon Papageorgiou in doubles play, the pair dominated their first two matches 8-4 and 8-4 before dropping the quarterfinal to the tournament's runners-up. 

Solevag Halvorsen recorded her first two career ITA wins in dominant fashion 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1. 

Both the Adelphi men's and women's tennis teams will return to the court on Saturday when they travel up to Saint Anselm.
