Concord, N.H. — The Adelphi University men's golf program celebrated a first-place team victory on Tuesday afternoon, winning the Granite State Opener in Concord, N.H. Senior Johnny Solari led the way, earning co-champion honors.
Solari was one of four Panthers to finish in the top ten in a strong all-around team effort. He shot a remarkable nine-under for the tournament. Over the span of three rounds, his best performance came in the second, shooting a seven-under.
In that round, Solari dominated the back nine, carding an eagle on the par-5 10th hole and adding four birdies over the next eight holes. The senior stayed consistent in his other two rounds, shooting one-under in both.
Zeus Sara continued to impress in just his second collegiate tournament, finishing two shots behind the leaders to secure third place outright. Sara's strong second and third rounds propelled him to the podium, shooting four-under in each. After opening with a one-over round at Beaver Meadows, he rebounded with an eagle in round two and five birdies in round three to close out an outstanding performance.
Fellow freshman Ike Rothman impressed as well, earning a fifth-place finish overall. Like Solari, Rothman found his groove in round two, posting a four-under that featured five birdies. He shot even-par 72s in both his first and third rounds to cap off a solid tournament.
Mitchell Archer followed closely behind, finishing tied for sixth. The sophomore came out hot in round one, shooting four-under with an eagle and three birdies. He continued his strong play with a two-under in round two before wrapping up the tournament with a 75 in the final round.
Freshmen Nicholas Prosa and Ahaan Dhir also contributed for the Brown and Gold. Prosa shot one-over for the tournament, highlighted by a huge six-under second round. Dhir held steady, finishing three-over with back-to-back even-par rounds.
Rounding out the lineup was Francis Lanuza. Following a second-place finish in the team's season opener, Lanuza finished seven-over, improving with each round. His best performance came in the final round, where he shot even-par.
Head Coach David Mattana and the Panthers return to action on Monday, Sept. 29, when they travel to Johnstown, Pa., to compete in the Sunnehanna Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament will take place at the Sunnehanna Golf Club.
