Coach Bill Ianniciello Announces Retirement

6/16/2025 11:00:00 AM

Garden City, N.Y. - After five seasons at the helm and 12 with the Adelphi University baseball program, Head Coach Bill Ianniciello has announced his retirement.

"It has been an honor to serve as head coach of Adelphi baseball," said Ianniciello. "This program, this university, and these student-athletes have been an important part of my life. I'm incredibly proud of what we've built together and am confident the future is bright."

Coach Ianniciello, who has led the baseball team since 2021 and been part of the program since 2013, has played an instrumental role in the program's development during his tenure. With the help of his leadership, the Panthers have appeared in eight Northeast 10 Conference tournaments and twice been Southwest Regular Season Champions (2021 and 2022). They reached the NCAA tournament in 2019 and 2022. Ianniciello compiled an overall record of 109-97 (.529) and following his first full year as head coach in 2022, he was named Long Island College Coach of the Year by Axcess Baseball.

Since 2021, the program has been recognized with six NE10 major award winners, including Southwest Division Pitcher of the Year and Rookie Hitter of the Year this season in Dawson Montesa and Jack Tate, respectively. In total, Adelphi has seen 25 All-Conference selections in the last five seasons and two All-American selections. Montesa is the first Adelphi All-American since third baseman Matt Alifano in 2022. Alifano went on to sign a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies organization that summer. Ianniciello previously recruited All-American pitchers T.J. Santiago and Ed Baram.

In addition to decisions on the field, Ianniciello has made an impact with his fundraising efforts, raising over $150,000 collectively on Giving Day since being elevated to the Head Coach role in 2021. Under his leadership, the program has not only excelled competitively but also maintained a strong academic record and a deep commitment to community service. Adelphi baseball saw Male Scholar Athletes of the Year in Kevin Glasser and Nic Luc, plus Panther Leadership award winners Jack Ryan and Tim Feliz during Ianniciello's tenure.

To engage alumni, Ianniciello was instrumental in continued outreach and the reinvigoration of Alumni events - including the 75th Anniversary of Adelphi Baseball celebration, which featured former Panthers in attendance spanning seven decades.

"We thank Coach Ianniciello for his dedication and leadership over the past 12 seasons," said Danny McCabe, Director of Athletics. "His impact on our student-athletes, both on and off the field, has been significant, and we wish him the very best."

A national search for Adelphi's next head baseball coach will begin immediately.
