Mansfield, Mass. — The Adelphi baseball team had multiple impressive performances in the 2025 season and on Thursday afternoon they were recognized by the league office.

Dawson Montesa, who had a historic campaign breaking the Adelphi single-season strikeout record with 105 Ks, was named the Southwest Division Pitcher of the Year.

The sophomore led the Northeast-10 in earned run average (1.99), wins (eight), strikeouts and was second in innings pitched with 72.1. Nationally, Montesa was fifth in Division II in strikeouts, fourth in strikeouts per nine (13.06) and tenth in ERA. The Glendale, N.Y. native is the third Panther to ever be named pitcher of the year, following T.J. Santiago and Ed Baram.

Jack Tate earned the second major award for Adelphi, being named the Southwest Division Rookie Hitter of the Year. The left fielder hit a team-high .352 while being second on the team in home runs (seven), on base percentage (.434), slugging percentage (.592) and hits (44). The freshman's batting average was good for fifth in the NE10. Tate is Adelphi's second ever rookie hitter of the year, following in the footsteps of former all-American Matt Alifano.

Montesa and Tate were also named to the Southwest Division's first team with Tate picking up all-rookie honors as well. Joining the two on all conference teams are Joe Pellegrino and Matt Ryan

Pellegrino was named to the Southwest Division's third team after another very impressive campaign. The senior tied his career-high in home runs with 10 and led the conference in doubles with six. He was in the top 10 of almost every major hitting category across the conference; OPS (1.098), OBP (.459), batting average (.350), RBI (42), total bases (100), hits (55) and walks (28).

Ryan had a nice year as one of Adelphi's primary catchers, being named to the all-rookie team. The freshman hit .289 in his first collegiate season, collecting seven doubles, one home run, 18 RBI and accumulating and on base percentage of .369.

Head coach Bill Ianniciello and the Cats will look to build upon their successes in 2026.
