Mansfield, Mass. - After a stellar freshman campaign, Adelphi University men's golf freshman
Mitchell Archer has been awarded both the Player and Rookie of the Year Awards, announced by the conference Thursday afternoon.
The DeWitt, N.Y. native wasted no time entering the Division II men's golf scene, winning his first ever collegiate tournament at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational, tallying an even 140 through 36 holes.
His real highlight moment came in this year's NE10 Championships held in Concord, N.H.. There, Archer won the individual championship helping the Brown and Gold earn a runner-up finish. Since then, the newcomer has netted a pair of top six finishes, capping in the team earning ninth at this year's NCAA Atlantic/East Regional.
Joining Archer on the First Team All-Conference is junior
Johnny Solari. Solari became just the third golfer in program history to qualify for the Division II National Championships, after he tied for fifth at the regional, accumulating a five-over 221. The Warwick, N.Y. native also slotted at fourth at the Charger Challenge earlier this spring, helping the team win its third event of the season.
Francis Lanuza and
Mason Rivera rounded out the Panther selections on the Second Team. Lanuza consistently found himself near the top of the leaderboard this season, winning the Saint Anselm Florida Invitational by shooting five-under par. He also joined Archer in the top three at the conference championships, tying for third.
Rivera closed out his senior season with a tie for sixth place at the Charger Challenge after tallying a five-over 149. This is the first All-Conference recognition of his career.
