Erie, Pa. - For the second consecutive season, the Adelphi University men's golf team secured a top ten finish at the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional this weekend, hosted by Gannon University at Whispering Woods Golf Club. The Panthers finished ninth out of the 20 team field, compiling a total score of 61-over 925 over 54 holes.
Junior
Johnny Solari headlined the weekend for the Brown and Gold, securing a spot at the Division II National Championships later this month held at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach, Fla.. The Warwick, N.Y. native shot 75 or lower in all three rounds, including an even 72 on Thursday. Solari joins Nolan Skaggs from St. Thomas Aquinas College as the two individuals competing in the Sunshine State from May 19-23.
"Johnny kept his cool in the face of a tough break on 17 and then birdied on 18 [in the final round] to secure his spot at nationals. His talent and mental toughness will make him a force in Palm Beach Gardens next week," commented Head Coach
David Mattana.
The team came out hot on the first set of 18, ending the day tied for fourth at 12-over 300.
Mitchell Archer had the next highest finish among the squad, sliding in at 42nd place after shooting a 17-over 233.
Francis Lanuza and
Alec Ramos finished just one stroke apart from each other, with the former netting a 20-over 236 and Ramos' notching a spot at 58th with a 21-over 237.
Mason Rivera rounded out the Panther scorecard with a 29-over 245.
