Lionetti Highlights NE10 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Announcement

Mansfield, Mass. – After the conclusion of the first round of the women's lacrosse championship, the Northeast-10 Conference has released major award winners and All-Conference teams.

Adelphi University saw sophomore Sonny Lionetti named the Defensive Player of the Year, as well as nine additional players earning spots on the first, second or All-Rookie teams. 


Leading the conference with 12 selections was New Haven, with Pace right on their heels with 11. Adelphi and Saint Anselm each had 10. Bentley's Maeve Johnson was named Player of the Year, while both New Haven and Saint Anselm had two major award winners each. 

Lionetti served as one of the anchors for the Panthers this season, helping hold teams to just over 10 goals a game. The junior from Point Lookout, N.Y. averaged two ground balls per game and caused 1.71 turnovers per contest. She had her best game against Assumption on April 8, when she picked up a season high five ground balls and caused four turnovers. She then added three draw controls to boot, in the 18-6 victory. She caused a season high six turnovers against Tampa in the early part of the season.

A total of four players were named to the First Team. In addition to Lionetti, sophomore Ashley Kolomechuk, junior Rita Sefransky, and senior Danielle Becker were among some of the best players at their position this season.

Becker led the NE10 in caused turnovers with averaging 2.12 per contest, 36 total. Kolomechuk sits in the top five in goals (57), goals per game (3.35), points (85) and points per game (5.00). Sefransky had her paws on most statistical categories, ranking within the top five on the team. 


A trio of players were named to the Second Team, as junior Marielle Colalillo, sophomore Julia Foppiano, and sophomore Payson Hedges each received their first All-Conference selections. Colalillo was a force on the draw circle, picking up 63 wins to lead the team. Foppiano led the team in assists with 31, to go along with 63 points. Hedges was crucial in clutch moments, scoring three game winning goals tied for the best on the team. 

Three rookies rounded out the honorees for the Cats, as Michaela Burke, Madison Howard and Rory Meehan were some of the top newcomers in the NE10. Burke notched appearances in all 17 games, finishing with seven points and 10 draw controls. Howard started all 17 games and helped in the team's stifling defense. Meehan appeared in 15 games, making the start in 11. She notched eight points, caused nine turnovers, and had 20 draw controls. 

Head coach Pat McCabe and squad have advanced to the semifinal round of the conference tournament. The team will host the #6 seed Assumption Greyhounds on Wednesday, April 30. Opening draw for a spot in the NE10 title game is set for 5: 00 p.m.
