Women's Basketball Opens Up At Home In NE10 Tournament on Friday

2/26/2025 12:00:00 PM

Garden City, N.Y. - As the regular season came to a close Tuesday evening, the Northeast-10 Conference office released the seeding for the 2024-25 women's basketball tournament.

With the top five seeds earning a bye to the quarterfinals, seeds 6-8 will play host to 9-11 on Friday, February 28. Adelphi will host the #7/#10 matchup, as American International College comes to town. The winner will advance to play at #2 Saint Anselm College on Sunday, March 2.

Bentley claimed the regular season championship for the second consecutive year, going 19-1 in conference play, with their only loss coming to the Brown and Gold. The Falcons will look to claim their fourth consecutive tournament championship, having not lost a conference tournament game since the 2019-20 season.

This will serve as the first postseason game Adelphi has hosted since Sade Jackson's first year as head coach in 2021-22, where the team fell to Franklin Pierce 61-58.

The Panthers split the season series with the Yellow Jackets, with both teams getting a win on the road. January's game in Garden City showed a strong Adelphi first quarter, before AIC pulled away behind 22 points from Ruzgar Christina Boyle. The 'Cats would return fire for the bout in Springfield however, edging out the hosts 53-50 with Kaitlyn O'Connell, Rolanda Robinson, and Christina Sanchez combining for 40 on the scoreboard.

Seniors O'Connell and Robinson have been the offensive lifeforce behind the squad this year, averaging a combined 23.2 points per game. O'Connell also stands just four three-point makes away from breaking the single-season record of 79 set by Kelly Mannix in 2014-15. Her current number of 76 stands at eighth in Division II.

Isabella Asencio has rounded out the scoring attack, as the sophomore also averaged double digits at 10.6 PPG. She also finished second on the team in assists with 47, for an average of just over two a game.

On the defensive end, Robinson finished the regular season as the NE10 steals champion with 66. Sanchez chimed in with 55 of her own, good enough for third across the conference. Lauren Beberman has swatted 29 shots this season, earning her fourth in the conference standings.

Games for all rounds of the NE10 Basketball Championship will be available on NE10 NOW on FloCollege, the Conference's digital streaming platform. Admission for all rounds of the Championship is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth, and free for all NE10 students with a valid ID.
