New Castle, Del. — Head coach Arthur O'Connor and the Adelphi bowling team took part in the Wilmington (Del.) hosted Wildcat Invitational this past weekend.
The Panthers picked up a big win over Long Island rival Molloy on Friday, defeating the Lions 822-799 in baker play. Adelphi then followed that victory up with a win over St. Thomas Aquinas in another baker match, 767-583.
On Saturday, the 'Cats knocked down an impressive 935 pins against Emmanuel (Ga.) for their best game during the traditional match portion of the tournament.
Adelphi wrapped up the invitational with two team baker wins against Alvernia to slot them into 11th place for the weekend.
Giana Giampapa had her best tournament of the season. In traditional matches, the junior averaged 18.44 pins per frame, knocking down 40% of her strike attempts (20-50) and 60% of her spare attempts (18-30). In baker play, Giampapa averaged 19.25 pins per frame with a 42.5% strike rate (34-80) and a 60.9% spare rate (28-46). She bowled the team-high game of 232 and put together four games over 200.
Skye Tadani bowled very well, knocking down 80% (12-15) of her single pin spares in baker matches. She led the team in first ball 9+ percentage (67.5%) in traditional play and was second to Giampapa in first ball 9+ percentage in baker with 59.7%.
Payton Hoffay had an excellent weekend, bowling 29 frames, the most of her collegiate career so far. The freshman had a 50% strike rate in traditional matches, her best on the year.
The Panthers will return to the lanes on Friday, Feb. 28 when they head south for the New Jersey Open in Hackensack, N.J.
