North Attleboro, Mass. — Adelphi University's Francis Lanuza has been named the NE10 Player of the Week for men's golf, the conference announced Wednesday. Additionally, Ike Rothman and Nikola Truhlarova were recognized as the NE10 Rookies of the Week for men's and women's golf.
For Lanuza, it is the second time this season he has earned player of the week honors in the NE10. The senior dazzled during the Panther Invitational last Thursday, shooting five-over across two rounds of play.
Despite battling cold and windy conditions, Lanuza got hot during his second round at the Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, N.Y., firing a two-under 70. His clutch performance featured seven birdies, leading the Panthers to a team victory as he captured the individual championship.
Rothman finished 12th at the Panther Invitational, continuing his strong freshman campaign. He improved his score by three strokes from round one to round two (81–78), recording six birdies over 36 holes — highlighted by three straight on the front nine in round two (holes 4, 5, and 6).
Truhlarova helped lead the women's golf program to its second first-place finish of the fall, individually finishing second overall at the Saint Anselm Invitational, this past Tuesday. She ended the tournament at seven-over, shooting a 77 that included 10 pars in her round.
The freshman adds her second NE10 Rookie of the Week award to her collection, proving to be a major addition to women's golf head coach Bill Bresnan's program.
Both programs conclude their fall seasons with hardware, heading into a break before returning to competition in March with their sights set on NCAA Regionals.
