Garden City, N.Y. - As the calendar turns to the 2024-25 academic year, the Adelphi University athletic department adds a new member to the office of External Relations in David Patalano, as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information, announced Wednesday.
Patalano spent time at nearby Long Island University, serving as the Assistant Director of Athletic Media Relations on the Brooklyn campus, where he was the primary contact for 13 sports.
"We are excited to welcome David to our Division II realm, after seeing what he can do at a higher level," said Emily Dorko, Associate Athletic Director for External Relations.
In his new role, he will oversee the promotion and publicity of all 23 of Adelphi's athletic programs and assist with department events and initiatives. The position also oversees the graduate assistant and interns, in an effort to prepare the next generation of college athletic communications professionals.
"I'm extremely excited to join the staff at Adelphi," said Patalano. "I would like to thank the hiring committee for the opportunity to contribute to the already very successful athletic programs here. I am looking forward to helping our teams reach new heights."
For the Panthers, Patalano will also be managing various content initiatives, all in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
"I expect David to play an instrumental role in expanding our reach on social media through visual content, especially in an effort to share the Division II mantra of 'Life in the Balance,'" continued Dorko. "With his expertise in film, we are truly looking forward to elevating our efforts, especially coming off one of the most successful years in department history."
Prior to his time with the Sharks, the Floral Park native was an intern with the New York Islanders for two years, where he was immersed in all areas of communications for the professional hockey organization.
Patalano, a 2021 graduate from Penn State University received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Film Production before securing his master's from Hofstra University in Journalism.
