Men's Golf Ties For Third At Granite State Opener

9/18/2024 3:00:00 PM

Concord, N.H. - In what was the second week in a row playing up north, the Adelphi University men's golf team tied for a third place finish earlier this week at the Granite State Opener, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University at Beaver Meadows Golf Course.

The Panthers finished only behind champion SNHU and Division I Merrimack. Tying with the Merrimack B team, the Brown and Gold collectively shot 16-over 880 across three rounds.

For the second week in a row, the lone freshman Mitchell Archer led the way for the 'Cats, this time finishing in a tie for fourth. After an even 140 at last week's Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational, the DeWitt, N.Y. native followed up his stellar performance with a four-under 212 this time around. His three-under in Round 2 is now his new career best.

Next down the line was Johnny Solari, who also shot an even 72 in the final round along with Archer. The junior improved three strokes from Round 1 to 2, going from 74 to 71, eventually finishing tenth.

Francis Lanuza joined fellow junior Solari in a one-under 71 in the second round. A five and two-over on the other ends of that middle round compiled his total score to six-over 222, slotting in at 23rd.

Axel Romney and Alec Ramos rounded out the Panther scorecard, tallying a 231 and 232, respectively.

Mason Rivera competed as an individual, shooting an 18-over 234.

Head Coach David Mattana and Adelphi will now take a roughly three-week hiatus as they prepare for the NE10 Championship from Monday, Oct. 7 - Tuesday, Oct. 8. The tournament will be hosted at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Mass.
