Flushing, N.Y. — On Monday morning during the final day of the ITA East Regional Championships, the number one seeded Adelphi women's tennis duo of Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd looked to defend their women's doubles title against the number three seeded team Karim Carreras and Valentinna Ferrarini of New Haven.

The final was a match filled with incredible rallies and constant momentum swings. Liedbeck and Boyd faced an early 0-2 deficit against New Haven but quickly fought back to gain a 3-2 lead.

The match was then sent into a back-and-forth battle. While the Panthers would hit some stellar shots, New Haven seemingly was able to return everything and in the eleventh game, they were able to regain the lead.

Boyd and Liedbeck continued to play well and were able to tie the match at seven games each. Looking to gain an imposing, eight-seven lead, the Adelphi duo went up 30-0 in game number fifteen but the Chargers were able to rally and stole the game to gain the edge.

In the decisive sixteenth game, Liedbeck and Boyd were eager to send the match to a tiebreak. Trailing 15-40, the two would gain two outstanding points and tie the game at 40. Tthe next point would either continue the match or give New Haven the title. Unfortunately for the Panthers, a great return from Liedbeck would lead to an even better shot from New Haven and the Panthers fell 7-9.

Number 17 seeded Zuzanna Witkowska advanced all the way to the women's quarterfinals and narrowly missed making the semifinal.

Boyd (20 seed) advanced to the round of sixteen and just fell short of the quarterfinals, losing on a tiebreak.

Sara Lindeman was victorious in her first ever ITA match, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Head coach Rebecca Fakas and the Adelphi women's tennis team returns to the court on Wednesday when they host New Haven for their home opener.
