Garden City, N.Y. - After adding two Division I transfers last month, the Adelphi University softball team have announced the addition of two more players from the junior college circuit, in Amanda Chavarria and Jenna Plue from Utica and Corning College, respectively.
"I'm thrilled to add these girls to our team. Their hard work and experience playing at the college level will add some more depth to our team," said Head Coach
Carla Campagna.
Chavarria provides some pop at the plate, hitting .375 in her 16 at-bats in 2024 for Utica, also slugging at a .375 clip. She also made a few appearances behind the dish, netting 11 putouts at catcher.
Before her career as a Pioneer, the Westbury, N.Y. native attended W.T. Clarke High School where she was a 2023 All-County Honorable Mention as her team went all the way to the county championships. She was also awarded the Jack and John Boyle sportsmanship awards from the school for her character on and off the field.
Plue enters into the Panther dugout after a stellar sophomore season at Corning. The Ithaca, N.Y. native held a 1.50 cumulative earned-run-average en-route to a 16-5 season. The flamethrower was awarded the NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Year, NFCA First Team All-American, along with the NJCAA DIII National Pitcher of the Year in recognition of her dominance. Plue will also rival the strikeout rate of recent departure
Lindsey Hibbs, as she stockpiled 271 strikeouts for a 13.55 K/7 ratio.
As if that wasn't enough, she would also contribute as a position player, primarily at first base and coming in relief from the field. At the plate, Plue hit a staggering .421 with ten round-trippers and eight triples. Her .905 slugging clip brought home 51 runs.
Her contributions both in the circle and the box helped the Red Barons to a 30-14 record, good enough for a Region 3B Championship, earning an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division III Softball World Series. There, they earned a fifth-place finish after a 13-1 victory over Community College of Rhode Island.
