Adelphi Charts Record Top 20 Finish in Learfield Directors' Cup Race

Cleveland, Ohio - A sweep of all three NE10 Presidents' Cups has been followed by a school-record Top 20 finish for Adelphi in the final 2023-24 Learfield Directors' Cup Standings for Division II.

Not only did the 'Cats lead all of the NE10 with 557 points (most-ever by any NE10 institution), Adelphi also headlined the entire East Region for the first time since 2016-17.

The Panthers ultimately placed 18th out of 251 Division II schools -- the best such finish in 2022-23 NACDA Athletic Director of the Year Danny McCabe's 11-year tenure leading the Brown and Gold. It also tied for the third-highest finish by an NE10 school in the league's history, matching UMass Lowell's 18th-place accomplishment in 2012-13.

Since McCabe's appointment as Adelphi's Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation in July 2013, Adelphi has now led all NE10 schools in the Learfield Directors' Cup race five times (2013-14, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2018-19, 2023-24).

An overwhelming margin of 186 points separated Adelphi (557.0 points) and Southern New Hampshire (371.0 points) for NE10 bragging rights.

"Our student-athletes and coaches had a tremendous year in terms of competition, resulting in our highest Learfield Cup finish in school history," McCabe exulted. "We sent eight teams to the NCAA Tournament, with many of those programs making incredible runs in the postseason, culminating with the men's lacrosse team's national championship."

"At Adelphi, we know that this success doesn't happen without the support of our Board of Trustees, our President, Dr. Christine Riordan, and the Executive Leadership team. It's so nice to share this success with all of those folks, as well as the countless other people on campus that help our students every day," McCabe continued.

Of the eight squads who qualified for the NCAA Championship, Adelphi rode the wave of a histroic spring season, in which six of those teams earned an invitation to the national tournament.

Capped by the men's lacrosse team winning its eighth NCAA Division II National Championship and the school's eighteenth national title all-time, the 'Cats amassed a whopping 397.0 points alone this spring -- the third-most among NCAA Division II institutions.

A national runner-up finish in women's lacrosse, coupled with a regional final appearance for Adelphi's softball, men's tennis and women's tennis teams, slingshot the Panthers into the Top 20 from 77th place -- where the 'Cats stood after the winter season.
