Winter Garden, Fla. - Through three rounds of even golf or better, Adelphi University graduate student Filip Wetterqvist has finished in a tie for 12th place at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship, hosted at Orange County National Golf Center and Lounge.

A finish of this magnitude easily clears as the best finish for an Adelphi golfer at the national tournament, with Louis Kelly (2014) tying for 63rd and Brant Kummerfeld (2009) tying for 33rd.

"Filip played consistently all week. He showed he was able to play with the top players at the national level," said Assistant Coach Matthew Sweeney.

The Sweden native's best round came in Round 2, where he holed two eagles and three birdies to place himself in the Top 10, carding a 2-under 69.

The opening round saw Wetterqvist tally a 1-under 70, with five birdies leveraging him in the upper half of the leaderboard.

Day 3 saw the most balanced play for the graduate student, as Wetterqvist started off the final round with 14 consecutive pars, en route to shooting a 35, tying him for sixth place individually at the time. After a bogey and a birdie on 15 and 17, respectively, Wetterqvist finished at an even 71.

Among individuals, Wetterqvist finished second-highest among the eight-man field. Only Joseba Torres from Nova Southeastern University finished higher than the grad student. His two eagles put him in a class of only five other golfers at the tournament.

"I couldn't have wished for a better ending to my college career. I'm really happy with how I played on all three days. It feels good to know I'm able to compete with the top ranked players in the country," Wetterqvist noted.

"I truly appreciate that the team was able to come down and watch me play. It brought extra motivation to my play and it was fun to be around them in between rounds."

Sweeney concluded on the 2023-24 men's golf season by adding: "It's always a positive to see Adelphi University being represented at nationals. We're heading in the right direction as a team, and we'll use this as motivation going into next year."
