Box Score Pleasantville, N.Y. - A scoreless third quarter proved detrimental to no. 2 Adelphi University women's lacrosse who fell shy of the program's eighth Northeast-10 Conference title, falling 16-14 to top-ranked Pace on Saturday.
Danielle Marino posted a six-goal performance courtesy of two goals and four assists as
Kerrin Heuser followed closely with five points behind four goals and one helper.
Adelphi put together an eight-goal second frame to stage the comeback and be even with the undefeated Setters at the break.
Marielle Colalillo and
Tamia Lawson were each responsible for a goal in the final 20 seconds of the second frame to lock the game at 11-all.
"I'm proud of the way we kept fighting, but they had more than us today," commented 10-year Head Coach
Pat McCabe. Under his direction, the team has made it to this game seven times, taking the decision three times - the last being in 2017.
A tie game at the half, the Panthers (16-3) were held without a goal for 15 minutes while the home team padded their side of the scoreboard with four tallies.
Rita Sefransky and
Tamia Lawson converted free positions shots in the fourth quarter that gave them a 3-1 advantage but untimely miscues proved to be the difference-maker. Adelphi committed 20 errors to Pace's 12, while Samantha Tanguay finished with nine saves.
Jillian McFadden and
Madison Marchetta combined for nine saves between the pipes for the Panthers.
For their efforts, Heuser and Marino were named to the 2024 NE10 All-Tournament Team.
The team - ranked second in last week's regional rankings - will await its fate with the 2024 NCAA Division II Selection show, scheduled for Sunday, May 12 at 8:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.
