Garden City, N.Y. — Head coach Brooke DeRosa and the Adelphi women's soccer team hosted Bentley on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed back alumni in the stands.
Madison Apicella almost scored yet another highlight reel goal in the fourth minute, but the ball would bounce off of the crossbar and out of play.
There would not be too many solid offensive chances for either side as no one was able to get off a clean shot. That was until the 35th minute when the ball found the feet of Kayleigh Goodrich at midfield. The sophomore would dribble the ball through the heart of the Bentley defense and fire a shot from outside the box that would clip the inside of the post and find the back of the net.
The Panthers would not be content with just a one goal lead as less than two minutes later, Alexa Piotrowski would pass up to Dylann Trahey, who would carry the ball all the way down to the end line. Trahey would get the ball past the Bentley defenders and to Gia Mandile who was able to fire Adelphi's second goal past the keeper.
The Brown and Gold would take the lead into the half and hold it for the remainder of the game. Bentley was unable to break past the stout Adelphi defense and each time the Falcons went down the field, the Panthers were able to counter attack. The 2-0 victory was Adelphi's fifth in a row and resulted in Peyton DeRouen's fourth clean sheet of the season.
Adelphi outshot Bentley 13-6 while also holding a three to two edge on corner kicks.
The Adelphi women's soccer team will return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they travel up to American International.
