Kansas City, Mo. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team has been cited for their performance in the classroom in the 2022-23 academic year, earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award on Wednesday.
This past year, the Panthers attained their highest team grade-point average in
Gary Book's tenure as head coach, posting a 3.587 GPA.
After a successful fall that saw the 'Cats carry a 3.520 grade-point average, Book's Panthers accounted for nearly twenty percent of the department's 4.0 GPA's in the spring semester to form their impressive team GPA for the year.
It is the third time in four seasons that Book's squad has earned the honor. The Panthers were tabbed as recipients of the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award in 2019-20 and 2021-22.
A combined total of 820 soccer programs -- both men and women -- met the minimum 3.0 team grade-point average needed to be eligible for the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award in 2022-23.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.
Adelphi travels to Springfield, Mass. to open the 2023 season against Wilmington University at AIC's season-opening tournament. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
