Seven Adelphi Athletic Programs Achieve NE10 Team Academic Excellence Awards

Mansfield, Mass. - After not sponsoring this award since the 2018-19 academic year, the Northeast-10 Conference is please to return the Team Academic Excellence Award to its list of honors, of which seven Adelphi teams took the top mark after the 2021-22 school year. 

The Team Academic Excellence Awards honor the teams with the highest grade point average in each of the conference's sponsored sports, and from the Panthers, men's and women's golf, men's swimming and diving, men's basketball, women's tennis, field hockey, and softball all earned the accolade this year. Adelphi's seven led the conference, as the next highest was SNHU who saw five of its teams take home this top honor. 

A league-best 76.56% of the teams in the NE10 were above a 3.0 GPA, as all Adelphi teams were included in that list. 

Men's golf capped off their season under first-year Head Coach Dave Mattana, by earning a team GPA of 3.515 while the women's team finished off with a stellar mark of 3.578. For the women, Ilaria Ponziani was also named an Academic All-Conference honoree for women's golf.

Men's swimming and diving wrapped up the year boasting a  GPA of 3.579, which was good enough for second in all of NCAA Division II to earn them CSCAA Scholar All-American team status under first year Head Coach Marc Danin. In addition, Skyler Nenadich, from the women's swim and dive program earned individual Scholar All-American honors - this award recognizes students who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship.

No men's team from Adelphi won the Team Excellence award in the last time it was offered, but this year the Cats saw three teams, concluding with Men's basketball who collected a team GPA of 3.389 for the school year.


After finishing this past year as runners up in the NE10 Championship, women's tennis earned a league-best GPA of 3.890, which is the highest team GPA for any Panthers athletic program this past academic year. Rounding off with three student-athletes, Barbie Quagliardi, Julia Kielan and Carolina Chaves obtaining Academic All-Conference honors. 

Field hockey delivered a team GPA of 3.683 to top off the academic year - their first Team Academic Excellence Award since 2010-11.

Softball capped off their outstanding season with a 47-15-0 overall record and a 22-4-0 record in the NE10, leading them to their fourth Northeast-10 title, their sixth regional title and their third DII College World Series appearance in program history. The team boasted a GPA 3.800 which is the second highest this year in the department behind women's tennis - they were led by three Academic All-Conference student-athletes, Claire Fon, Courtney Wengryn and Lindsey Hibbs
