Garden City, N.Y. — Adelphi University has announced the appointment of Margaret Maclean as the next head coach of the field hockey program, effective May 4, 2026.
Maclean brings a blend of collegiate coaching experience, player development expertise, and a strong commitment to student-athlete success. She currently serves as head field hockey coach at the University of New Haven, where she oversees all aspects of the program, including recruiting, game strategy, budget management, and student-athlete mentorship.
"We're excited to have Margaret join the Adelphi family," said Director of Athletics and Recreation,
Danny McCabe. "She brings with her great experience, knowledge of the NE10 conference and a passion to teach and mentor student-athletes."
At New Haven, Maclean has guided the program through the Division I transition, after being named the second head coach in Charger history in 2023. While the team was still a member of the NE10, she coached five All-Conference honorees.
Prior to her tenure at New Haven, Maclean served as head coach at Allegheny College, where she led all facets of the program following a successful stint as assistant coach. She played a key role in launching the Allegheny field hockey program and was part of a coaching staff that earned NCAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors in 2022.
In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Maclean is actively involved in the national field hockey landscape. She has served as a USA Field Hockey Nexus coach, earning a silver medal at the 2023 U14 Nexus Championship, and continues to contribute to the sport through leadership roles with the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), including serving on the Board of Directors and Coaches of Color Council.
Knowing the NE10 all to well, Maclean was a former standout student-athlete at Pace University. In her career with the Setters, she was a team captain, Second Team All-American, and one of the inaugural members of the program. In her senior season, she led a defensive unit that led NCAA Division II in goals against average (0.88) as she personally led in defensive saves (8). Prior to her time in Pleasantville, she was a one-year member of Millersville University where she played seven games for the eventual Division II Championship team in 2014.
"I want to thank Athletic Director
Danny McCabe and Associate Athletic Director Jess Roque for giving me this amazing opportunity," said Maclean. "Adelphi has a storied history of success, support, and community values. I can't wait to get started and contribute to that culture and the already successful field hockey program."
Maclean will complete her Master of Science in Sports Management from the University of New Haven this spring and holds a bachelor's degree in Communications with a minor in Sports Marketing from Pace University.
