Garden City, N.Y. - Although the Panthers had to wait, the Adelphi University baseball team concluded the regular season this weekend as NE10 Southwest Division champions for the third year in a row.

As the conference schedule remained in a divisional format in 2022 with no crossover play, the Panthers played four-game weekend sets against all six Southwest Division opponents and won five of those series.

The title of regular-season champion wasn't decided until the season's final day, when New Haven took both games of a doubleheader from Southern Connecticut to cement Adelphi atop the Southwest Division standings.

As a result, Adelphi will hold the No. 1 seed in the Southwest Division and play host to fourth-seeded Saint Rose in a first-round single-elimination game Tuesday (May 10) at 3 p.m. at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.

It is a quick turnaround for the Panthers and Golden Knights, who just wrapped up the regular season against one another in Albany this past Friday and Saturday.

The winner will advance to the double-elimination portion of the NE10 Championship, which is scheduled to be held this Thursday-through-Saturday (May 12-14) at the Northeast Division's highest remaining seed.

Last May, Adelphi reached the finals of the NE10 Tournament for the first time since 2014. The Panthers only have one NE10 Tournament trophy to their credit, in 2011.

For much of the year, the Brown and Gold have possessed one of the elite line-ups in the conference. Adelphi leads the NE10 in hitting (.331) and on-base percentage (.409), in addition to ranking second in slugging (.498), hits (457) and doubles (86), and third in home runs (41).

The Panthers are entering the postseason with a 28-11-2 overall record and 17-6-1 conference mark. Since Bill Ianniciello assumed head coaching duties last April, Adelphi owns a record of 42-19-2 (.683 winning percentage).
