Today's Women's Lacrosse Game Moved to Motamed

3/9/2022 8:59:00 AM

Garden City, N.Y. - No. 9 Adelphi women's lacrosse will have their home opener moved up several days as the game originally scheduled for today (Mar. 9) at no. 12 Mercy will now be played on Motamed Field at 3:30 p.m.

The Panthers have only met up with the Mavericks on two occasions, the most recent being the 2018 regular season finale when Adelphi took a 18-7 win on senior day.

Mercy is coming off an 18-7 win over Franklin Pierce from their home opener on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by seniors Kerri Cummings and Juliana Keenan who each had a team-high five points on three goals and two assists.

A season ago, the Mavericks earned just their third NCAA-bid into the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship. Dawn Sachs '06, led her team to a No. 2 seed in the East Region by virtue of going 12-2 and earning the program's second straight ECC Regular Season Championship. Unfortunately, their first round game was declared a no-contest due to covid protocols.

Head Coach Pat McCabe and his squad opened up the 2022 campaign on Feb. 23, with a 23-3 win over Georgian Court. The team is slated to take on three-top 25 opponents over their next three games.

Fans are permitted back at Motamed Field, and is strongly encouraged that all visitors be fully vaccinated prior to attending events on campus and if they are not, then they are encouraged to get a negative test prior to visiting campus. However, these are not mandates for visitors to campus.
