Hamilton Township, N.J. - Although it didn't come away with a tournament win, the Adelphi University women's bowling team performed exceptionally well at the Hawk Flight Invitational this past weekend at Hamilton Lanes.
Over the first two days, the Panthers (45-31) suffered only three losses in 11 matches between the Baker and traditional formats. Along the way, the Brown and Gold upset No. 17 ranked Long Island University, 911-801.
Their scores steadily improved through the weekend, as well. Across its eight victories, Adelphi won by an astonishing average of 103.6 pins.
Stephanie McCoy averaged a season-best 203.3 in the Baker competition and finished among the Top 5 traditional bowlers with a 196.2 average, earning All-Tournament accolades for a second time this season.
McCoy led the ECC this weekend in overall frame average (200.6), strike percentage (51.9 percent) and fill percentage (84.6 percent), while also averaging a league-best 9.07 pins on her first ball.
In Sunday's best-of-seven Baker competition. the Panthers lost both of their contests by the slimmest of margins. A combined total of three pins was the difference in their winner-take-all matches against Monmouth (236-235) and Wilmington (181-179).
As a team, Adelphi threw almost half (44.9 percent) of their shots for strikes during the weekend and converted 62.1 percent of its spare attempts.
Only one more tune-up remains for the Panthers before the ECC Championships. Adelphi will travel to the Northeast Roundup from Mar. 19-20 at the Bowlerama in New Castle, Del.
