El Segundo, Calif. - The Premiere Lacrosse League announced the inaugural Professional Lacrosse Hall of Fame Class on Tuesday, featuring current Head Coach of Adelphi women's lacrosse,
Pat McCabe.
McCabe is one of 11 players to make the 2022 Class, which includes three attackmen, three midfielders, three defensemen, one goalie, and one specialist – determined by consensus among all committee members, all listed below. Players who had a five-year career in the PLL or Major League Lacrosse and who have been retired for at least three years will be eligible.
"The Hall of Fame Committee will seek to recognize truly great professional lacrosse players through the selection process," said Head of Player Experience Brian Silcott. "The inaugural class will be inducted after the committee comes to a unanimous decision on 11 special players from the first 15 years of PLL/MLL history."
A four-time Major League Lacrosse All-Star, he helped lead the Lizards to the MLL's first-three championship games, taking home titles in 2001 and 2003. He collected 182 ground balls in his pro career. McCabe was another four-time All-American at Syracuse University and was a 2006 inductee into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2006. He won the William Schmeisser Award as the nation's most outstanding defenseman in 1990 and won three NCAA Championships (1988-90) at SU.
His first stint at Adelphi came in the 2010-11 season with the men's program when he strutted the sidelines, pushing the Panthers to NCAA Division II runner-up status. He returned to the Panthers in 2015 and in seven years at the helm, McCabe has guided the Panthers in their championship tradition, adding three NCAA Division II national crowns to the team's resumé while reaching the national championship game in his first three years. The squad has also won three Northeast-10 Championships, running the team's total to seven in nine seasons.
