Staten Island, N.Y. - In the first of what could be four meets at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, the Adelphi University track and field program opened the indoor season with gusto, including a new school record in the 300m dash from senior
Gabrielle Griffin.
Griffin was one of four ladies to top the 300 time set by Colleena Guy in 2007 (45.07), with hers landing 10th overall in the finals at 41.56.
Claire O'Regan (42.85),
Fiona Maloney (43.52), and
Roodginia Guerrier (44.56) also posted times that took down the over 10-year old record.
Also impressing in the first outing of the season were
Amari Johnson and
Bryan Combary, who each took home individual titles in the 60HH events, with personal bests in the specialty. Johnson bested her PR from last season's indoor championship with a finish of 8.92 as Combary clocked in at 8.73.
In her first collegiate indoor track meet,
Valencia Beaubrun put up a time of 26.54 in the 200m dash, to place ninth overall, while also jumping 5.19m in the long jump event to place fifth.
Coming up with a second place finish,
Christopher Holt clocked in at 34.88 in the 300m on the men's side, just .76 behind the top competitor.
In the throws pit,
Andre Francis went over 14 meters for the first time in the weight throw, landing in that range on three of his six throws in the series to place third overall.
Adelph will not be back in action until after the new year, when they return to Ocean Breeze on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023 for the Spartan Regional Preview.
