Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's cross country program wrapped up the 2022 campaign on their home course, as part of the 2022 NCAA Division II East Region Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Overall, the men's squad came in 13th out of a possible 21 spots, led by
Matthew Gemma who landed right outside the top-50 at 52nd overall. His time of 34:01.00, which bested his 2021 time by nearly 30 seconds.
Jake Orfano was second for the Panthers, coming in a few seconds following Gemma, in a time of 34:15.50 for his second collegiate 10K. Dropping over 30 seconds from his 2021 race, placed 55th overall for a 10-place improvement from a season ago.
Rounding out the top-three for Adelphi was
Gabriel Silva, who averaged a 5:37 mile pace in the 10K race. Rookie Chris Leonard was on the heels of Silva, placing 82nd out of 146 harriers, being the fourth Panther to cross the finish line in a time of 35:02.80.
In his first college 10k,
Adam Zelin was just outside the first 100 finishers, clocking in at a time of 35:54.00.
The men will now prepare for the indoor track season, scheduled to start on December 2 at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
