Plainview, N.Y. - On Sunday, the Adelphi University baseball team spent time mentoring the youths of Plainview Little League's Challenger Program.
The Plainview Challenger Program offers children between the ages of 4-to-21 -- with varying disabilities -- the opportunity to play baseball.
The group of Adelphi student-athletes split up between two age-separated fields to coach the special needs youth and give defensive instruction.
"It was truly a great experience to be a part of something like this," said graduate outfielder
Tim Feliz. "With the daily challenges these kids face, it's truly amazing to see how an organization like the Challenger League and the game of baseball brings them such happiness."
Sophomore pitcher
John Rizzo echoed similar sentiments: "The community service event with the Challenger League that we visited was a great thing to be a part of. Seeing young kids with special needs playing baseball and interacting with each other was a humbling and wholesome experience. I'm glad that we were able to help put a smile on their faces."
