Women's Lax Pitted Second in NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll

1/26/2022 2:09:00 PM

Mansfield, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team was selected to finish second in the 2022 Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches Poll, released Wednesday by the league office.

To see the complete results, as voted on by the league's head coaches, see below.

Adelphi received 157 points, 10 short of top-ranked Le Moyne College, stealing three first-place votes from the Dolphins. Last year, Adelphi finished seventh in the NE10 with a 6-3 record in conference and a 9-4 record overall and lost in the conference championship game against Bentley University.

The Panthers were picked first in seven of the last eight NE10 preseason polls - falling second to then-reigning national champion Le Moyne in 2019. Adelphi has won four NE10 championships and four national championships in that span and has also made the NE10 championship game in 10 of the last 11 seasons.

Head Coach Pat McCabe returns several key starters, including points leader Christina McCabe, who set a career-highs in goals (32) and points (46) last season. Goalkeeper Emma Lemanski also returns after starting 12 of 13 games a year ago and ranking fourth in the NE10 with an 8.13 goals-against average. McCabe enters his eighth season with the program after missing the national tournament for the first time in his tenure at Adelphi in 2021.

The women's lacrosse program heads into the 2022 season looking for their first NE10 title since 2017 and first national championship since 2019. A national championship in 2022 would make Adelphi the first Division II women's lacrosse program to win double-digit national titles, and still reign as the program with the most trophies to boot. The season begins on Feb. 23 on the road against Georgian Court University.
