Garden City, N.Y. - Visitors to the Garden City campus of Adelphi University will notice a very short distance separating the Performing Arts Center - home to the institution's departments of Theatre, Music and Dance - and Motamed Field - home to soccer, field hockey and lacrosse - making for a natural intersection of the two.

Starting Tuesday, October 5 and running through Sunday, October 10, students from Adelphi's Department of Theatre will bring Sarah DeLappe's contemporary play "The Wolves" to life - after spending the early part of the semester working alongside members of the Adelphi women's soccer program.

"We feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with the theater group in their production of The Wolves", said Head Coach Brooke DeRosa

"I think we've spent so much time during COVID being disconnected to people in our community and on campus so this event really makes us feel apart of a larger community on campus. It's fantastic to share that support between both groups."

The play will be directed by Maggie Lally, associate professor of theatre and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Adelphi. The assistant director is Fernando Mercado, a senior Adelphi theatre major.

"I wanted to do a play that had strong roles in the age range of the worm in our department," commented Lally.

"I saw The Wolves when it first opened and thought that since soccer was central to the characters in the play, it would be a great opportunity to collaborate with Athletics on the production. I have wanted this for a number of years and this play gave me the opportunity to reach out to the department and Coach DeRosa about partnering in some way."

While all performances will be presented in-person on Adelphi's Garden City campus, a recording of a live performance will be made available online on Sunday, October 10.

"I believe the company has a newfound interest and appreciation of what it takes to be an elite soccer player after attending a few practices and supporting the team directly at a few games. It feels great to be telling a story of young women coming of age through soccer practice and honoring the work ethic and the challenges inherent in that struggle," Lally continued.

Performances in Adelphi PAC's Black Box will be on Tuesday, October 5, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, October 9, at 2 p.m, and Sunday, October 10, at 2 p.m.

Tickets, required for the in-person and online performances, cost $20 and can be purchased by visiting adelphi.edu/events/the-wolves.

Adelphi PAC's priority is to ensure the safety of our patrons, artists, staff and the entire Adelphi community against COVID-19. Effective immediately, all audience members age 12 and over will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Anyone under 12 or who is not fully vaccinated must show proof of a negative test taken within 72 hours of the performance. All guests regardless of age or vaccination status will be required to wear masks at all times while inside the Adelphi PAC.

In addition, capacity will be limited to 50% for many of PAC's events. These policies will remain in place at least through December 31, 2021, and are subject to change at any time.
