Mansfield, Mass. - The Adelphi University Department of Athletics nearly came away with a fifth NE10 Presidents' Cup, when the league office announced the Cup's winner on a streamed year-end awards show Monday night on
NE10NOW.tv.
In spite of the fall and winter seasons being canceled amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the NE10 still awarded the Presidents' Cup to a seasonal champion this spring.
By the slimmest of margins, Adelphi's 80.0 points ran second to Franklin Pierce's 85.5 points.
The Presidents' Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the NE10. It is awarded to the institution that compiles the most cumulative points based upon overall regular-season finishes in team sports and final placement at the NE10 Championships in individual sports.
The Panthers attained the highest percentage of possible points in the standings at 79 percent.
Nine of Adelphi's 10 spring teams participated in NE10 postseason play, which included NE10 Southwest Division regular-season championships in baseball and softball.
Additionally, the women's outdoor track and field team posted a program-best third-place finish at the NE10 Championships, led by
Gabrielle Buissereth's second Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet honor of her career.
After winning four of five NE10 Presidents' Cups between 2012-17, the Panthers have finished in the Top 3 each of the last four years, with three runner-up finishes.
