Fairfield, Conn. - It was 594 days since they last picked up a ball.

The Panthers didn't miss a beat.

In its first tournaments since March 2020,  the No. 25 Adelphi University women's bowling team won both the Baker and traditional competitions over the weekend at the Sacred Heart University Bowl for a Cure at Nutmeg Bowl in Fairfield.

The Panthers eclipsed a pinfall of 900 or better in each of their four wins in Saturday's traditional format. In its narrowest decision of the bunch, Blanca Fraticelli (226) and Megan Wehmeier (222) each bowled a 200 game in a nailbiting three-pin result (935-932) over No. 13 Sacred Heart. Their games were individually the second- and third-highest of the ten qualifying bowlers in the match.

Wehmeier, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, averaged a 187.4 in the five matches and threw a team-leading 24 strikes. Skylar McGarrity followed right behind her classmate with a 187.2 average, which included a 230 game against Monmouth.

Despite losing its first two matches Sunday in the Baker format, Adelphi ultimately reached the championship match and posted its best total pinfall of the weekend with a 1,007-966 victory over Sacred Heart.

In that contest alone, the Panthers rolled three games of 200 or better and averaged a 201.4 -- the second-highest average of any match that day.

Along the way, Wehmeier earned a second Tournament MVP honor for her efforts. Fraticelli received All-Tournament distinction.

Head Coach Dennis Kearney and his Adelphi squad are back in action this weekend (Oct. 29-31), when they host the inaugural DezyStrong Classic at Coram Country Lanes. The tournament will be held in honor of Kearney's long-time friend Matt "Dezy" DiStefano, who passed in January 2020 from complications arising from Stage 4 kidney cancer.
