Douglassville, Pa. - The No. 21 Adelphi University women's bowling team made a clean sweep in capturing the Baker title at the Molloy College Bowl for a Cure this weekend at Jay Lanes in Douglassville.

The Panthers went a perfect 5-0 in the Baker format, averaging a 190.2 and tallying a total pinfall of 4,755. Adelphi entered its final Baker match in third place, but a 243 against Mount St. Mary's University catapulted the Panthers over Wilmington University and The Mount to secure the Brown and Gold their first tournament title of the 2019-20 season.

"I am so proud of this team. They continue to amaze me with their hard work, dedication and their will to never give up; no matter how much adversity is thrown at them. They just always seem to get it done," Head Coach Dennis Kearney said.

For Adelphi, the weekend was dedicated to Kearney's close friend, Matt DiStefano, who passed away last Monday after a long battle with kidney cancer. The team wore "Dezy Strong" tee-shirts in his memory and to support DiStefano's cause.

"This week has been really tough on me and the team really helped bring me up. The girls will continue dedicating the rest of the season to Dezy and the Dezy Strong Foundation," Kearney added.

In the traditional format, the Panthers, despite beating eventual champion Mount St. Mary's in their final match, posted a runner-up finish. Adelphi fell short by just 18 pins.

Megan Wehmeier and Skylar McGarrity were each named All-Tournament, after bowling a 1,073 and 1,039 series, respectively.

In a hard-fought win over Wilmington that was decided by only 39 pins, the Panthers had four of their starting five roll a 200 or better. Wehmeier led the way with a 256. McGarrity's traditional-high for the day was a 228 against Mount St. Mary's.

Kearney and his Adelphi squad are back in the Keystone State this weekend (Feb. 7-9), when they return to Berks Lanes in Sinking Spring, Pa. for the Baker Classic, hosted by Chestnut Hill College.
