Farmingdale, N.Y. - The hot streak continued into this past weekend for the No. 20 Adelphi University women's bowling team, which won both ends of the Molloy Baker Invitational at Farmingdale Lanes in Farmingdale.
The Panthers (56-28) have now won four of their last five tournaments and own an outstanding 35-10 record (.778 winning percentage) since the New Year.
It didn't come easy though for the Brown and Gold. Three of Adelphi's seven individual wins over the weekend came by 50 pins or less.
However, the Panthers, who averaged a 190 as a team on both days, won both tournaments by more than 100 pins.
Skylar McGarrity stole the show on the lanes. She was named All-Tournament twice and received Most Valuable Bowler honors after the first day. McGarrity led her team with a career-best 208.9 average. That mark was nearly 20 points better than the next best average on the team. She also saw more than half her throws (51-for-100) at the invitational go for strikes, including two separate streaks of 12 and 13 strikes in a row.
Kaitlyn Grant and
Olivia Lopera joined McGarrity as All-Tournament selections on Saturday. Grant started in every match for the first time this season and posted a team-best 84.8 fill percentage, in addition to converting 19-of-22 (86.4 percent) single-pin spares. Lopera averaged a 200 on the first day and made 43-of-52 (82.7 percent) makeable spares during the weekend, to go along with no incomplete frames.
Head Coach
Dennis Kearney and his Adelphi squad will now have one more tune-up before the ECC Championships. The Panthers will travel to Smyrna, Tenn. for the Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt University from Mar. 6-8.
