Dallas - The Adelphi University bowling program once again matched up with some of the best teams in the country over the weekend, as the Panthers headed to Texas to compete in the Stormin' Ladyjack Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin.
Traditionally the Panthers' toughest tournament of the season, the fifth edition of the tournament proved no different: the top five teams in the nation competed in the event with eight of the country's top 10 programs present, according to the February NTCA rankings. All 12 teams, including Adelphi, that competed held a ranking in the nation's Top 25.
Junior
Olivia Lopera led the way for the 24th-ranked Panthers in the individual standings, posting a 28th-place finish with an average of 189.33.
In all, Adelphi had four of its bowlers finish in the Top 40 in a field of almost 100, as two-time ECC Rookie of the Week
Megan Wehmeier placed 35th, with her classmate
Meghan Doris finishing in 37th, and junior
McKenna Collier placing 40th.
Overall as a team, the Panthers finished ninth with a total pinfall of 12,550, and an average of 187.3. Adelphi posted a winning record on the first day of Baker play, earning victories over No. 21 Louisiana Tech, No. 16 Central Missouri and No. 13 Wisconsin-Whitewater, and added a day two victory over ninth-ranked Tulane.
In Adelphi's best win of the weekend by ranking, Doris rolled a team-best 237, while
Skylar McGarrity chipped in a 203, and Wehmeier added a 194 for a 969-841 decision in favor of the Panthers.
On the final day, the Brown and Gold doubled up against both LA Tech and UCM to end the weekend on a high note.
Adelphi returns to action the weekend of March 15, traveling to the Music City Classic in Nashville.
