Garden City, N.Y. -
After the departure of long-time administrator Kate Whalen in September, Adelphi University Associate Athletic Director for External Relations
Emily Dorko has been selected to assume the role of Senior Woman Administrator, as announced by Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation
Danny McCabe on Tuesday.
"We are fortunate to have Emily serving as our Associate AD/SWA at Adelphi University. She is committed to our values of providing the best possible experience to our student-athletes. As a former two-sport Adelphi student-athlete, Emily understands the dedication it takes to compete at the Division II level," McCabe said.
In this role, she will serve to promote meaningful representation of women in the leadership and management of the department -- all while being a role model for female student-athletes and employees.Â
"She is always there for our student-athletes - whether it is to support them through difficult times or to celebrate their successes. Emily serves as a role model in our athletics department and is well-respected across our campus."
Dorko, a two-time All-American on the Adelphi volleyball and softball teams, helped the Panthers to a pair of Northeast-10 Conference Championships, while she excelled on the field and in the classroom. Not only was she successful on the field as evidenced by her All-America and numerous All-Region accolades, she was also highly successful off the field and court academically. Dorko was selected as a NE10 Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award winner and received a national D2ADA Academic Achievement Award from that athletic directors' association.
"I am so excited to take on this role in a department that has done so much for me since undergrad," commented Dorko. "I look forward to working alongside all our female student-athletes and employees and acting as a mentor as they navigate college and their professional aspirations."
After completing her undergraduate degree in Marketing, Dorko remained at Adelphi as a graduate assistant in the athletic communications office under Adam Siepiola, who she would eventually replace upon returning to Adelphi in February 2017.
