Madison, Wisc. - The Adelphi University bowling team matched up with some of the strongest competition in the nation over the weekend at the Warhawk Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater.
In a field which saw seven of the national preseason Top 10 in the National Tenpin Coaches' Association's (NTCA) All-Division rankings competing, rookie
Megan Wehmeier paced the Adelphi effort, finishing in 36th place in a field of over 120 bowlers, as she posted an individual average of 195.4 over the weekend.
On Saturday's traditional day, Wehmeier posted a team-best 233 score in Adelphi's eventual 1096-832 setback to McKendree, but Adelphi scored two of its four wins on the middle day of the tournament over Central Missouri and Maryville.
Juniors
Olivia Lopera and
McKenna Collier posted two 200-plus games to lead the Panthers over UCM in a tight 951-950 contest, with Lopera rolling a 214 and Collier chipping in a 205.
Skylar McGarrity led the way in the win over Maryville with a 206, while Wehmeier nearly hit the 200 mark with a 199.
Adelphi placed 16th in the field overall, with a total pinfall of 11,902.
The Panthers are back in action for their final tournament of the 2018 calendar year over the weekend of Nov. 30, as they travel to Delaware to compete in the Wilmington Wildcat Classic, where they claimed the team title a year ago.
