Easton, Mass. -- In a rematch of the last two Northeast-10 Conference championships, the Stonehill College women's tennis team flipped the script and earned a 6-3 victory over the Adelphi University women's tennis team on its home court on Saturday.
SeniorÂ
Rebecca Fakas, the No. 16-ranked singles player in the ITA Division II East Region rankings, earned two points for Adelphi. She and
Karen Serina, the region's No. 4-ranked doubles team, notched the Panthers' lone doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 1, preventing the sweep and sending Adelphi (2-1, 1-1 NE10) to doubles down 2-1.Â
Fakas leveled the match for Adelphi at 3-3 with a straight sets win at No. 1, which followed
Samantha Perri's straight sets triumph at No. 4 and Stonehill's Alexandra Vo's win over
Nicole Kielan at No. 2. However, three three-setters turned the match in the Skyhawks' favor at singles flights 4-6, with Adelphi's
Elizabeth Kallenberg, Serina and
Vanja Savic each rallying from a set down to force a decider, but falling in final sets. Stonehill's Caroline Ray delivered the most dramatic win of the day over Savic, as she rallied from 5-1 down in the final set to win No. 6 singles.
