Athletics Raises Over $25,000 at Fall Cocktail Reception featuring Dave Righetti

Carle Place, N.Y. - The Adelphi University athletic department had another hallmark night at its annual Fall Cocktail Reception presented by Legacy Advisors on Wednesday, Nov. 8, raising over $25,000 for its programs at the Chateau Briand.

This year's event, the 10th annual edition of the annual fundraiser, featured former Yankee Dave Righetti. Righetti played in Major League Baseball from 1979 through 1995 for the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, and Chicago White Sox.

During that time, he was the first player in history to both pitch a no-hitter and also lead the league in saves in his career. In his 16-year stint in the league, he retired with 252 saves, a 3.46 ERA and a record of 82-79 in 718 games.

Righetti took time to sign autographs and take photos with over 300 people assembled in the ballroom, and closed the evening by taking guests inside the clubhouse with stories from his playing days with an interview by "Talking Baseball"'s Ed Randall.

Raffles and a silent auction were also part of the evening, as guests bid on autographed items and memorabilia, which included a game-used base used in the last Mets game at Shea Stadium in 2008, a commemorative bat from Yankees' rookie slugger Aaron Judge, autographed jerseys from Jon Lester, David Wright, Dustin Pedroia and Daniel Murphy, among others. All the proceeds from the annual event go to Adelphi Athletics, for the benefit of the student-athletes.

"This annual event helps the entire athletic department," said head baseball coach Dom Scala. "I want to thank Dave and Ed Randall for coming out and headlining our event this year. It's always a great night to get friends and supporters of Panther athletics together, and the group certainly enjoyed listening to Dave Righetti speak, tell some stories from inside the clubhouse and recount his time as a Yankee, especially his no-hitter."
