Springfield, Mass. -- The Adelphi University women's tennis team started its defense of the Northeast-10 Conference crown on Wednesday afternoon, blanking the Yellow Jackets of American International College on the road, 9-0.
A pair of 8-0 sets in doubles led the Panthers (1-0, 1-0 NE-10) to a sweep before hitting the singles court, as
Elizabeth Kallenberg and
Karen Serina led the charge at top flight. Also posting an 8-0 result were newcomer
Vanja Savic and
Maria Bruzon Gutierrez at No. 3, while
Rebecca Fakas and
Samantha Perri completed the sweep of the Yellow Jackets (0-1, 0-1 NE-10) by winning 8-2 at No. 2.
Adelphi's roll continued in singles, as five of the six flights recorded at least one bagel set en route to six victories. Savic completed a perfect debut for the Panthers, as she recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to sweep all 20 games she played over the course of the match.Â
The Panthers return to the courts on Saturday, Sept. 10 as they host the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire in their 10 AM home opener.Â
