2016 Schedule
Garden City, N.Y. – With a three-peat of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship in sight as well as a 10th straight NCAA Tournament berth, Head Coach
Danielle MacKnight has put forth a challenging schedule for the Adelphi University women's volleyball team this fall.
"We are really looking forward to the 2016 season," said coach MacKnight. "The team is set to travel down south to play some of the top teams outside of our region at Nova Southeastern as well as returning north for a set of four, touch matches at California (Pa.). I am hopeful that those early tests will prepare us for the competitive NE-10 schedule."
The Brown and Gold are scheduled to play 13 matches on the road before the home-opener on Tuesday, September 27. The first eight matches of the season are split equally between the Nova Southeastern Tournament as well as the California (Pa.) Tournament.
The season commences on Friday, September 2 with two matches against Southern Nazarene and Lynn. The Nova Southeastern Tournament also features two matches against the host Sharks as well as Rockhurst, the reigning Midwest Regional Champion. Four matches in two days await the Panthers in the following weekend of September 9th and 10th against Grand Valley State, Davis & Elkins, Charleston, and the tournament host Vulcans of California (Pa.).
Following a week off, Adelphi travels to Le Moyne to begin league play on Saturday, September 17. While in Syracuse, the Brown and Gold are also slated to face Millersville in non-conference action. The Panthers then travel to nearby Molloy and Georgian Court throughout the week of September 17th before wrapping up the 13-match road stretch at Assumption on Saturday, September 24.
Bridgeport marks the first opponent for the Panthers inside the Center for Recreation and Sport on September 27th before Saint Rose travels to Garden City on Saturday, October 1. The Purple Knights advanced to the East Region Championship match a year ago before falling to NYIT, Adelphi's opponent on Thursday, October 27th.
Saint Rose joins American International, Bentley, Stonehill, New Haven, Saint Michael's, and Saint Anselm as conference rivals to make the trip to Long Island. Meanwhile, in addition to away matches at Le Moyne and Assumption, the Panthers are also set to travel to Pace, Southern Connecticut, Merrimack, Franklin Pierce, and Southern New Hampshire for NE-10 dates.
In between the non-conference matchups against Bridgeport and NYIT, the Brown and Gold also travel to Chestnut Hill while hosting Queens.
Notes:
- Six opponents on the 2016 schedule earned berths into the 2015 NCAA Tournament including regional champions Rockhurst (Midwest) and NYIT (East).
- The Panthers went 27-5 in 2015 that included a perfect 14-0 NE-10 record.
- Out of the 29 matches for the upcoming year, 20 will be played away from Garden City.
