Brookville, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season, and second over the LIU Post Pioneers this year, as the Panthers defeated their ECC opponents by a 7-2 final score on Wednesday.
A sweep of doubles play got the Panthers (16-1) off on the right foot against the Pioneers (6-7), as they were looking to defeat their cross island rivals for the second time this season. The toughest match came for
Stefani Lineva and
Karen Serina at No. 1, as they faced off against Didi Fatchikova and Lucie Chrastecka, but it was the Adelphi tandem who came out on top by an 8-6 final to push the advantage to 3-0.
The trio of
Rebecca Fakas,
Samantha Perri and
Elena Nastasi were dominant in singles, as they each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories at the No. 4 through No. 6 flights, respectively to clinch the match. With the victory alread clinched, Lineva and Serina's matches were decided after one set at No. 2 and No. 3, while the Pioneers' Shanice Arthur defeated
Elizabeth Kallenberg at No. 1 in a completed two-set match.Â
By virtue of winning the Northeast-10 Championship in the fall, the women's squad is assured a place in the NCAA East Regional field later this spring.

- The team checked in at #4 in the
first edition of the Division II East Region rankings, released by the NCAA on Wednesday.
- The Panthers are qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012.Â
