Waltham, Mass. -- With both teams on a winning streak, it was the Adelphi University women's tennis team who remained undefeated and perfect in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 7-2 road victory over the Bentley University Falcons on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (7-0, 6-0 NE-10) got contrasting wins at the first two doubles flights to take the lead on the afternoon.
Elizabeth Kallenberg and
Samantha Perri eased past their opponents 8-2 at No. 2, before
Stefani Lineva and
Karen Serina edged out a gritty match against Ludmila Yamus and Rachel Petrini, 9-7. However, the tightest match of the day would come at No. 3 doubles, and the Panthers were denied a sweep as Hannah Fabianski and Corrie MacLean handed
Rebecca Fakas and
Elena Nastasi their first loss of the season in a tiebreak, 9-8 with an 8-6 score in the breaker.
Adelphi used five victories in singles to snap Bentley's (3-2, 3-2 NE-10) three match winning streak, as Fakas and Nastasi rebounded from their doubles disappointment with strong singles perforrmances. Nastasi allowed just two games to Olivia von Oldenburg at No. 6 singles, while Fakas was tested by Petrini in set two before prevailing 6-1, 7-5. Serina and Kallenberg accounted for Adelphi's other two points, while Yamus benefitted from a Lineva retirement at No. 1 for Bentley's other point.
